Psychotherapy Case of a Depressed Female Patient

Abstract

|
This is a psychotherapy case of depressed female patient. The patient came to me for psychotherapy because of depression and related symptoms. Her father was alcoholics. Her mother was cold and dissatisfied with her life. So the patient had grown up without feeling of being loved. Her psychological problem was mainly fear of being rejected from others. This problem was manifested as transference and resistance in the psychotherapeutic process. She hesitated to talk about herself during the session and feared for being rejected from therapist. So the therapist tried to resolve this problem by the interpretation of dream. She expected therapist to do role as like her aunt who had been supportive and warm. But the therapist could not interpret transference because she was very depressed due to her sister’s marriage. The therapist supported and soothed her. She became to get improved emotion and relationship with her family. Unfortunately, at that time this psychotherapy was not able to continue due to therapist’s private problem. The most difficult problem of this process was how to manage the transference and when I should interpret of it. May be it might be related to the strategy of psychotherapy as like supportive or expressive psychotherapy.
